STATISTICS
NAME Cameron "Cammie" MacCloud
AGE 18
DOB 22nd May 2055

HEIGHT 5'1"
BUILD Slight but fit
HAIR Blonde, ponytail 90% of the time
EYES Green
VOICE Scottish

FIRST IMPRESSION
A baby-faced teenage girl that could pass for a couple years younger than she is. Between that and the rabbit ears you might be assume she's a rather childish, innocent sort but that lasts as long as it takes her to open her mouth and curse. Bouncy, friendly, but full of attitude.

DEAF/HARD OF HEARING
Cammie is Deaf. Not totally, she has limited hearing without her aids on, but she's progressively losing more of that remaining hearing as she ages. She can read lips and the implants in her eyes allow for live subtitling, but mostly she wears a pair of rabbit-ear hearing aids that attach to a band around her hair. They connect to an internal implant and she can sync up other pieces of similar tech to it, including that included in one of her favourite hoodies that has tech over the ears.

She isn't shy about her Deafness, but she's also not going around shouting about it either. So please, don't fuck with her ears. She can fix them, but it'll be a real pain in the arse for her and she will be pissed.
ABILITIES/SKILLS
HACKING/PROGRAMMING
Extremely talented hacker, even before powers. One of the most creative coders of her generation. She was and is well-known in black hat hacking circles thanks to her skill. She understands GL's code better than anyone but Weller and is capable of modifying it to suit her team's needs, was capable of breaking into a highly secure Japanese base, and more.
GL SUIT
A near-bulletproof kevlar bodysuit that enhances the wearer's reflexes, speed and strength by reading their nervous system's intent and amplifying it. Enhancement enough that the wearer can punch fairly significant dents in a solid metal wall. It absorbs the impact from a bullet and diffuses it, and seems to provide similar protection from a certain amount of blunt-force trauma like a fall.
HOLON
A now 10-12ft tall mecha that looks like a rabbit, that Cammie uploads her brain into to operate as if she were the mecha itself. She can only upload for a few hours or so at a time, but thanks to super-strength, digitally enhanced senses, her energy pistols and aim/recon drones, Cammie's a highly adept fighter when she is uploaded. The mech is extremely durable and the only thing that can't be repaired easily or with time is the e-brain, any damage done to that puts her at great risk.
COMBAT
Cammie's combat skills are not as developed as her teammates, as she's young and only been fighting for a few months, but she's a quick learner and adapting fast. The more she fights in her Holon, the better she is at translating that to her real body, and she's willing to try and learn the old fashioned way too.
INTELLIGENCE/OBSERVATION
Cammie is very good at putting her general intelligence to use. She's not a school-smart kid, but she is still a little genius. She notices things her teammates don't, because she looks at the world differently than a normal soldier, which let her put together who the spy was at De Soto before anyone else.
ABOUT
Cammie is a 17 year old girl from Glasgow, Scotland who just so happens to be a hacking and engineering child prodigy—she designed her own custom hearing aids that look like bunny ears, just for one. It's 2072 and the world has been at war for 4 years (or 20, depending on who you ask and where they're from) with the two sides being the Polity, a flawed but progressive alliance between various countries, and the Union, a fascist movement that believes conformity is the route to salvation and will force that conformity on others to reach it. The Union has been striking out with terrorist attacks and taking over areas in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania for at least a few decades, now, with no direct pushback from the Polity for fear of sending the war hot.

So where does this 17 year old come into that? Well, first she got herself arrested after falling for a Polity Cybersecurity trap that got her enlisted into their ranks to serve off her sentence, which then led to the discovery she has a highly unique brain structure. gen:LOCK is a newly discovered process that allows for certain compatible human minds be uploaded to a digital brain, which are used to run Holons—giant mecha that can go into a fight without risking being eaten by the highly dangerous nanotech that the Union uses.

Cammie's one of six such people currently known, five of which make up her team. Chase, Kazu, Val and Yaz are all older and more experienced than Cammie, and she doesn't always feel like she can keep up, but she does her best. The war hasn't been easy on any of them, both before and after they joined gen:LOCK. Cammie's an orphan, and had her head ripped off on her first mission (the magic of using a Holon) and isn't handling it half as well as she's pretending. She buries her trauma in work and gaming, but considering Chase is a copy of the original him, who was captured and tortured into becoming the team's main enemy, Nemesis... she doesn't think she has a right to the trauma at all.

PERSONALITY
There are a few things you need to know about Cammie: she's a genius and she (generally) knows it; she's foul-mouthed, sarcastic, a menace and yet the sweetest girl you ever did meet; she's creative and eager to learn and likes getting her hands dirty; annnnnnd if you treat her like a child, she will hate you. No, really, she has no patience for being babied and the only people who ever get a pass are the people she shares her mind with on a regularly basis, and even they're on thin ice some of the time.

Avoid that, and Cammie's a sweet, friendly girl who struggles a little with social interaction (she once approached a conversation she didn't know how to have like she was talking to an NPC in a game) and sometimes lacks confidence outside of her areas of expertise. Inside her comfort zone, she's a tech whiz; she can upkeep the extremely complex gen:LOCK system with only a little assistance needed from the walking data repository that helps, she can maintain the Holons as well as design new armour upgrades that perfectly suit her team, she had a hell of a reputation in black hat hacker circles... she's one of the most creative coders in her generation.

She's also far more traumatised than she lets on. Losing her siblings, then her parents, before she turned 14 did far more of a number on her than she'd ever admit and having her head ripped off by Nemesis certainly added a lump of visible trauma to the pile. She's tried to fix her trauma by editing her code when uploaded and even considered deleting a memory, before, though she's learned that neither are viable options for 'fixing' herself. She's plagued by nightmares and struggles to talk about them as she feels she should be past it, because all the texts say that the nightmares should go away. It takes a lot to get through to her.

Her main method of coping with her traumas is to throw herself into either games on the Ether VR network, which she sees as a safe haven, or into her work. She spends hours late at night either designing things or on the Ether, which makes people think she's staying up late gaming for the sake of it, when it's a case of being unable to sleep and needing to ease her mind. She's sort of working on opening up to her friends about her issues, but it's an ongoing process.

Cammie is a teenager who is only now even beginning to examine the weight that's been placed on her shoulders, and has lost multiple years of her childhood to parental death, the war, and working off a prison sentence earned black-hat hacking. She wants to have fun, but she also wants to be respected for the person she is and the experiences she's had.
APPEARANCE
Cammie is as pale as anything, with freckles all over her face and arms especially. She's 5'1" with shoes on and a very slim, slight girl, though she's starting to develop some lean muscle from rigorous military training. You'd be forgiven by anyone but Cammie herself for assuming she's a year or two younger than she really is, since she has a rather soft baby face to match her short height and wears mechanical rabbit ears.

These rabbit ears are attached to a band around her hair, which is a pale blonde and usually tied in a ponytail for this purpose but can sometimes be found in a bun or braid, and react with her emotions (though she can override the automatic responses) as well as to noise. They're hearing aids, you see, connected to implants. Sometimes she might wear her 'boring' set of normal hearing aids, but she prefers these.

She has bright green eyes that sometimes light up quite literally if you look close, thanks to the mixed-reality contact lenses she wears.

Her fashion choices tend towards the comfortable but somewhat futuristic looking. Hoodies and jogging bottoms make the most repeat appearances, but she wears the odd skirt or dress. Most common colour choices are green, pink and yellow, as well as black and white.
CRAU
Cammie's first world hop was to [community profile] piper90, a dystopian world created by the Go-Away war, a war that left the very fabric of reality unstable thanks to the use of bombs that stripped information from matter. 'Stuff', the substance left behind, could become anything and everything you could think of, good or bad, leaving the world hostile and strange. The new arrivals were enslaved by the corporation trying to maintain a 'livable zone' for humanity's survivors, using a substance that nullifies the Stuff's strange properties. Jorgmund implanted the characters with a shock collar to force their cooperation and used them to run missions out into the gone-away world and the dimensions that overlapped with it.

Whilst there, Cammie had to figure out how to operate without her usual tools and teammates. She worked her way into some lab time to keep an eye on things, and was able to offer assistance when others stole an unimplanted shock collar. When shit finally hit the fan, resulting in their main tech, Brainy, seemingly being killed, Cammie was the one to crack how you deactivated the collars, leading to their ultimate freedom.

However, the portal that was supposed to lead back home did not get everyone where they were supposed to go. Cammie was among those who found themself in [community profile] wildestlands, a magical world that connected to the Green in every other universe. This group were chosen to save the Green and every other universe with it. There, Cammie was even more out of her depth, but found more friends and slowly started to open up about her trauma to some of them.

Ultimately, the Wilderlands did a lot of good for her. She picked up new skills, developed her self-confidence outside of technology, and started picking at the knot of maladaptive coping mechanisms she'd built up.
HISTORY
Cammie's a Glasgow girl, born to Lachlan MacCloud and Billie MacCloud in 2055. For the first few years of her life she was an only child, being thoroughly doted on by her Gran and Dad whilst her mother was away working with the teams decommissioning the North Sea Oil Rigs. Her baby siblings, Maisie (Mairead) and Fergie (Fergus) came along when she was about four, but it was only after her father, who raced in the European Motorcycle circuit, was paralyzed from the waist down during a crash that her mother came home. They needed all three adults to help with the adjustment and Cammie remembers this time of her life fondly, having all of her family in the same house.

Unfortunately, when she was about nine the twins came down with a mystery illness, declining quickly and dying not long after one another. The family was devastated. In the aftermath, her mother left to return to her work on the rigs full-time, unable to face living at home after losing two children in such quick succession. She kept in touch, but Cammie went back to living with just her Gran and Dad again from then on.

So, she became a real daddy's girl. He taught her everything she needed to get started with coding and they set up a private Ether space together that she maintains to this day. He and her Gran taught her how to design and engineer things, too, helping her build her first set of ears and Nugget. When she turned 10, her dad let her out into the public Ether spaces for the first time and she got into hacking quickly, whilst her school performance continued the deterioration that started when the twins' deaths disrupted everything.

She was thirteen when her mother died in a supposed "accident" on the oil rigs that, even a few months before the war began, everyone knew was actually the Union. Within a couple of months her father died, too, having already been suffering lasting complications from his original injuries; it's like losing his wife on top of two kids just does him in. Overcome by grief, Cammie starts acting out and eventually drops out of school. She started hacking in black-hat spaces for money and fun and developed quite the reputation, but, eventually, she took a job that turned out to be a Polity Cybersecurity trap and she was arrested, spending 4 days in a cell before her Gran bailed her out. Pol Cy offered Cammie the opportunity to go white-hat and work for them instead of facing prison time, she took it, and she hasn't seen her Gran since.

She spent about a year working for Pol Cy, where she earned a reputation as an extremely creative and gifted coder, and was coming right up on 17 when she was flagged as gen:LOCK compatible by Dr. Rufus Weller, the head of the Experimental Science Unit and pioneer of gen:LOCK itself. She was asked to join the experimental program, though Pol Cy didn't want to let her go and Weller was even reluctant to recruit someone so young. Cammie just said that war was for the young, so why shouldn't he?

So, she was run through the necessary tests and eventually brought to the Vanguard's main base, the Anvil, alongside her new teammates Valentina (an ex-special ops soldier from occupied Union territory), Kazu (a rebellious, recently demoted tank gunner) and Sinclair. "Sinclair", as it turns out, is a spy, and he attempts to steal one of the cyberbrains and Holons by uploading himself. Since he's incompatible, he dies, and gives one hell of a demonstration of why gen:LOCK compatibility is so important.

Despite the dramatic affair, Dr. Weller convinced the remaining three new gen:LOCK compatible candidates to give it a try by having Yaz show how it works when it actually works. Cammie went next, and she was immediately excited by the new technology, as were the others, but it still took a little bit of a guilt trip and a well-worded speech from Weller to convince them all to join Yaz (a Union defector who Weller took under his wing) and Chase (the first ever gen:LOCK pilot, a Vanguard hero thought to have been KIA) in the fight for real.

The GL team spent time training and learning to work as a team, with varying success. Cammie struggles with combat and adjusting to the proportions of her Holon body, a problem that continued to plague her when they were sent on their first field assignment. During this mission, she was extremely nervous and eventually ended up cut off from her teammates by Union's single stolen Holon: Nemesis. Nemesis ripped her Holon's head off in an attempt to reach the cyberbrain, which was an extremely traumatic experience despite a lack of actual harm done to her real self, before she was rescued.

In the aftermath, she began to have nightmares about the attack, which made it hard for her to sleep and make her sloppier in training. In an attempt to overcome this, she figured out you can edit your cyberbrain's settings and so she made herself more confident and aggressive. This created a 'near-psychotic feedback loop' that Weller had to reset her settings from his end to fix, though he waited a while to use it as a teaching moment. It was a lesson learned.

On the assignment following this, the team discovered that Nemesis was actually the original version of Chase, whose Holon had been taken by the Union years prior. Weller used to back Chase's mind up to a second cyberbrain each time he uploaded and so, when the original Chase was taken, they were able to restore Chase's mind to his body from that back-up without ever telling him. The team barely got hours to process this before the Anvil was attacked and it seemed as if everyone by gen:LOCK squad, who were told to evacuate to prevent the Union getting the technology, was killed by Union nanotech.

They fled, all mourning and shaken, and after debating what to do with options ranging from 'cut and run' to 'fight on alone' they eventually found a message from Weller and went to RTASA (a top-secret, rogue NASA, assumedly hiding from the Union) where they found out more about Weller, gen:LOCK and upgrade their Holons with designs Cammie had been working on. Everyone loved them and Cammie was very proud of herself.

They found out that the Anvil survived, though Weller died trying to save them, and join them in a defensive mission in Chicago, where they ultimately defeat Nemesis—but not without a cost. Having mindshared (connected their minds, enabling them to use each other's skills and move unpredictably/totally in sync) so much, most of the team had to download, but Chase chose to let his uptime run out. This means being stuck in his Holon. For him, it's not much of a difference, as his human body had been stuck in a medical tank for four years, but it's still a shock for everyone. After killing Nemesis, who left them with the ominous message 'kill these copies', they decide to work out of RTASA, not the Anvil, from now on.

The team spent a while running supply runs, evacuation runs and more for RTASA and the Vanguard, before being called to assist in the recovery of a group of refugees because they supposedly had information about 'stolen brains', an alarming set of words for GL. They are trapped in De Soto base thanks to the same hurricane they were out there to save the refugees from, and during this time, they tried to investigate the fishy circumstances surrounding that information (conveniently lost to a death in the refugee party) and a possible Union mole. Cammie noticed most of the things that are off and in her attempts to prove it, almost got attacked by a Union virus on the Ether. She later learns this and other attacks were semi-successful, planting code in her cyberbrain that activates when she uploaded; she barely fought it off and figured out that the Major at the base is the real mole. He was ultimately killed as he fled.

Sometime after De Soto, the team ended up in Japan—despite explicit orders from their general not to get involved in the blockade they were suffering. They got stuck there after first taking damage, and then having their Holons confiscated by the Japanese Polity. Cammie and Chase encounter a figure calling itself Sycorax (which turns out to be a trap) in the Ether, who ultimately kidnapped Chase and attempted to corrupt him against the others. Cammie tried to tell the others, but they thought it was just a game and her 'paranoia' was just a result of her lack of sleep; she pretended to play along with the intervention and ultimately figured it all out on her own, though not before the Union started to attack Japan more directly. The team banded together again, rescued Chase from Sycorax, defeat Sycorax by deleting the game they're running on (Siege, Cammie's favourite), and pushed the Union back.

Shortly after their return to the USA and RTASA, the team were called in to assist on a push by the Vanguard across the 88th. It was on this mission where they first encountered a copy of Nemesis—or more accurately, copies, plural, as the Union sent five after them even this first time. Narrowly, the team survived and defeated the Nemesii, but the Vanguard assault failed without their assistance. From there, things only got worse. More and more Nemesii were sent after them, more and more territory was lost, and eventually they were pushed out of not just the Anvil but the majority of North America entirely. This caused General Marin to start using desperate measures, primarily copies of the team that they did not consent to, to start turning the tide, a fact that the gen:LOCK team are unaware of at Cammie's canon point. With these copies and the original squad, the Vanguard was able to regain the Anvil, but lost Kazu in the process. Distraught, Cammie reacted to this by stowing away on a Union ship with the intention of getting the Union's HQ in New York to attempt playing double agent and take the Union down from the inside.
